statement bio other work contact

For the past 18 years, Vincent Goudreau has been collecting narratives of displacement, migration, and the idea of finding one’s home. Engaging within communities of interest and foreign environments, Goudreau builds friendships so that he can learn from others and document these stories. This interaction and the storytelling that it generates is the basis for his research. Later forms of investigation does occur, yet it is the content/context of these stories which dictates the project’s artistic medium and is the foundation for the work. What often begins with video/film portraits of individuals who have been socially set aside, such as the elderly and working class, a new body of work emerges in the forms of paintings, drawings and installations. The work confronts taboo issues, explores how we as people judge one another, and finds a common ground through universal struggles.
